The Tamil Nadu Government decided to increase the sports quota seats in engineering college admission from 100 to 500 from this academic year.
Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa has given an order to all engineering colleges to increase the sports quota seats during counselling for engineering courses admission. The constituent colleges of Anna University, the official said, is likely to have 12 seats under the quota, whereas the rest of the 488 will apply to other colleges in the single-window counselling pool.
According to this quota, persons who have participated and have won in international, national, state and district level sports events would be eligible for admission in these increased seats as per the government guidelines.
Aoording to Anna University Officials, more than 1300 candidates would be invites under the sports quota category, counselling for this category is helding on July 9 & 10.
It is a very helpful practise to encourage sportpersons, but also its good stategy to increase the number of sports person in nation, state and help them in higher studies.
The state government of Tamil Nadu had recently enhanced the prizes money to the medal winners in Olympics, Asian, Commonwealth and National Games. The prize money has been doubled and they will get Rs. 2 Crore for Gold Medal winner, Rs. 1 Crore for Silver Medal winner and Rs. 50 Lakh for Bronze medal winner.
As for Asian and Commonwealth games they will get Rs. 50 lakh for Gold Medal winner, Rs. 30 lakh for Silver Medal winner and Rs. 20 Lakh for Bronze medal winner.
So, such kind of innovative decisions boost the students who are good in sports students and willing to persue higher studies.
