National Institute of Technology Puducherry is one of 10 newly opened NITs by the MHRD of Indian Government. NIT Puducherry is located in Karaikal, Puducherry. NIT Puducherry came into the existence in the year 2009 as the part of the 11th Five Year Plan of the government. NIT Puducherry offers courses like Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Apart from these courses, the institute is running the doctoral programmes also. Admissions in the NIT Puducherry are taken through the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) similar to the other NITs in India. NITs in India are the next best institutions running engineering and technical studies after the IITs.

Campus-

Presently the NIT Puducherry is running in a temporary campus at Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College which is located in Nehru Nagar area of Karaikal. Whereas, Government of Puducherry has already allotted an area of 258 acres of land near Poovam Village in Karaikal for constructing the campus of NIT Puducherry. The construction of the campus is under progress.
