There are many institutes which offer courses in the field of film and television. Most of the courses are conducted at the postgraduate degree level. Besides degrees, a number of institutes offer diploma and certificate courses of shorter duration as well.
Typical courses deal with various aspects of film and television production and presentation such a production, direction, editing, cinematography, film processing, animation, acting, sound engineering, make up, photography.

 

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), is an autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India. It is fully aided by Central Government of India.  It is situated in the premises of the erstwhile Prabhat Film Company in Pune, India. Since its inception in 1960, FTII has become India's premier film and television institute, with its alumni becoming biggest known actors and directors in the Indian film industry.

 

The Institute offers three-year post-graduate diploma courses in film direction, editing, cinematography and audiography; two-year courses in acting, art direction; a one and a half year course in computer graphics and animation; a one-year course in feature film scriptwriting. One-year post-graduate certificate in direction, electronic cinematography, video editing and audiography are also part of the courses.

Earnings of workers in the motion picture production and distribution industry vary, depending on education and experience, type of work, union affiliation, and duration of employment. Salaries for directors vary widely. Producers seldom get a set salary; instead, they get a percentage of a show's earnings or ticket sales.

 

Candidates can find employment with Film Studios, Production Companies, Advertising Agencies, Government Department, which make films or start their own venture as producer, director, editors, cameramen, soundmen, lighting crews, assistants and so on.
