1. Navigation rights figure in first Quadrilateral talks

 

·        PM Narendra Modi lands in Manila (Philippines) to participate in the 31st ASEAN and 12th East Asia summits.

·        India participated in the first formal official level discussions under the recently mooted regional coalition known as the Quad.

·        Countries include in quadrilateral formation are- India, Japan, United States and Australia.

·        Indian team at the Quad consist of- Joint Secretary in charge of the East Asia division in MEA (Pranay Verma) and the Joint Secretary in charge of South division (Vinay Kumar).

Discussions focused on –

Ø Cooperation, promotion of peace, stability and prosperity.

Ø Terrorism and proliferation linkages.

Ø Freedom of navigation.

Ø Challenges of countering terrorism.

Ø Maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.

2. ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit 2017

    

   

Ø 31st ASEAN Summit 2017 – venue- Manila (Philippines), Host leader- Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

                   ASEAN-

        

 

Ø Established- 8 August 1967 in Bangkok (Thailand)

Ø Headquarters- Jakarta (Indonesia)

Ø Motto- One Vision, One Identity, One Community.

Ø Aims and Purposes- To accelerate the Economic Growth, Social Progress, Cultural Development and to promote Peace and Stability.

Ø Members- 10

Ø Founding members- Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

Ø Other member- Brunel Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia.

Ø Earlier the organization was known by ASA (Association of Southeast Asia), formed in 31 July 1961 by group consisting Philippines, Malaya, Thailand.

Ø Observer State- Papua New Guinea

Ø It is an official United Nations Observer.

Ø Official language- English

Ø India’s membership- India is in South Asia, but India is not a member of ASEAN.

Ø Agreement- India has ASEAN-India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) agreement.

Ø Financial assistance- India provided financial assistance to ASEAN countries in following forms- ASEAN-India Cooperation Fund, ASEAN-India Science and Cooperation Fund, ASEAN-India Green Fund.

3. East Asia Summit (EAS) 2017

 

Ø 12th East Asia Summit 2017- Venue- Manila (Philippines), Host leader- Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

EAS-

Ø It is an initiative of ASEAN

Ø It is a group of 18 countries of the Asia- Pacific region.

Ø Established- 2005

Ø Objective- regional peace, security, prosperity

Ø Member- 18, which include 10 ASEAN member , Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia and USA.

Ø India’s membership- India is a founding member.

Ø 13th East Asia Summit 2018- Venue- Singapore

4. Oorchatheli

               

·        Oorchatheli is a traditional cattle race in a paddy field

·        It is found in Narikkuni village of Kozhikode district of Kerala State.

Kerala-

Ø It is a South Indian State on Malabar Coast.

Ø According to census 2011- Kerala has highest Sex ratio and Highest Literacy rate in India.

Ø Capital- Thiruvanthapuram.

Ø CM- Pinarayi Vijayan.

Ø Governor-Palanisamy Sathasivam.

Ø National Park- Earavikulam, Periyar and Wayanad.

5. First fauna survey begins in Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary

 

     Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary-

·        It is one of the rarest eco regions in the world because its harbors vast tracts of pristine Mangrove forests.

·        It was declared Wildlife Sanctuary in 1998.

·        Location- Andhra Pradesh

·        It is sandwiched between the Bay of Bengal and the Krishna River and geographically falls in the Krishna and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh.
