1.    MINORITY STATUS ONLY IF TRUSTS ENROL NITI SITE

·        New registration as non-governmental organisations with NITI Aayog will be mandatory for educational trusts & societies seeking minority status.

·        The registration will be done on NITI Aayog portal DARPAN.

·        The registration will put all the financial transactions of the trusts and its office bearers under government scanner.

·        But the rules will not be applicable to institutions run by the individuals.

·        The Indian Constitution gives linguistic & religious minorities the fundamental right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.

2.    NEW IIP & WPI SERIES TO IMPROVE GVA ESTIMATE

·        The major change in the new WPI series has been the removal of indirect tax component from WPI.

·        This will make the process of deflation of current price based value of output data more robust.

·        The new series will also get rid of fiscal policy.

·        It will follow the geometric mean methodology in line with the CPI series.

·        This will improve real GVA estimation & reduce the faulty deflator problem.

·        New IIP series with the base year 2011-2012, will continue to use the output approach to estimate IIP using the hybrid method of using a mix of physical output quantities &value of output.

3.    Xi ENVOKES PANCHSHEEL AS INDIA SKIPS MEET

·        Chinese President Xi Jinping proposes fiver Principles of Peaceful co-existence or Panchsheel and said that they have no intention to interfere in India’s internal matters.

·        India skipped two-day Belt and Road Forum(BRF).

·        India skipped as a mark of protest against the infringement of its sovereignity by China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that passes through Pakistan Occupied Kashimir.

PANCHSHEEL

·        Signed between India and China on 29th april 1954. This consists of 5 principle

(i)                            Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity & sovereignity.

(ii)                          Mutual non-agression.

(iii)                        Mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

(iv)                        Equality & cooperation for mutual benefit.

(v)                          Peaceful co-existence.

4.    PRIDE OF PLACE

·        India’s longest bridge to be inaugurated in Assam close to the border with China on May 26 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

·        The bridge will reduce the travel time from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh by about four hours.

·        Length of the bridge is 9.15 km which costs Rs.950 crore.

·        It can withstand 60 tonnes of weight.

·        The bridge spans the Lohit river.

·        In 2011, the construction began under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways along with a private infrastructure company.
