1.   CABINET GIVES NOD FOR 10 INDIGENOUS NUCLEAR REACTORS

·        Union cabinet cleared the proposal to construct 10 indigenous pressurised heavy water nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 7,000 MWe.

·        It will result in a significant augmentation of nuclear power generation capacity.

·        The cabinet also approved a coal linkage policy, called the scheme for Harnessing and Allocation Koyala Transparently in India (SHAKTI).

·        This will ensure adequate supply of fuel to power plants.

·        A pressurized heavy-water reactor (PHWR) is a nuclear reactor, commonly using unenriched natural uranium as its fuel, that uses heavy water (deuterium oxide D2O) as its coolant and neutron moderator.

2.   FIRST ANTI-TOBACCO FILM FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN GOA

·        The first Goa Anti-Tobacco Film Festival will be held on May 31st.

·        It will be organized by the Entertainment Society of Goa.

·        Its aim is to select ad films and short films to be screened to spread awareness effects of tobacco use and to decrease the occurrence of oral cancer in state.

·        Over 30 films will be screened.

·        The best five films will be used for promotions of as campaigns of Anti-Tobacco across cinema theatres/TV channels, schools, colleges, and other government department programmes and on the internet.

3.   VISAKHAPATNAM BILLED THE CLEANEST RAIL STATION

·        A Survey on station cleanliness carries out by the Quality Control of India (QCI) and released by Railway Minister.

·        The survey showed that Vishakhapatnam railway station is the cleanest, followed by Secunderabad and Jammu Taw, among 75 major stations in the country.

·        Darbhanga in Bihar is the dirtiest among these major stations.

·        The QCI evaluated cleanliness at 407 railway stations’ parking, main entry area, main platform and waiting room.

·        Passenger feedback was also factored in.

4.   NTRO NOW UNDER INTElLIGENCE ACT

·        National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) will now have the same “norms of conduct” as the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW).

·        The notification was issued by Home Ministry listing NTRO under ‘The Intelligence Organisation (Restriction of Rights) Act, 1985.

·        The demand was being made by the organisation for over a decade now.

·        NTRO was created after the 1999 Kargil conflict as a dedicated technical intelligence agency.

5.   RAM MUSEUM IN AYODHYA

·        Plans to build a temple dedicated to Lord Ram on the Banks of the Sarayu river in Ayodhya.

·        Ministry of Tourism and Culture came out with a blue print that includes a yagyashala where oblations will take place twice a day, and live performances of the Ramayana in various languages would be a daily feature.

·        Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister gave approval for grant of land for the purpose of a grand Ram museum in Ayodhya.

·        The museum will have the outward appearance of a temple and on entering there would be a pictorial representation of a Ram Durbar, with the walls covered with various episodes from Lord Ram’s life.
