1.Iraqi PM declares ‘end of IS’

· Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the end of IS yesterday by saying “state of falsehood” of Islamic State has come to an end.
· The announcement was done when the troops captured the Mosul which is a historic mosque where 3 years back Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared himself “Caliph”.
· Air and ground support is provided to the Iraqi forces by a U.S.-led international coalition. The United States named the campaign “Operation Inherent Resolve.”
· Islamic state of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a terrorist organisation.
· ISIS participated in the Iraqi insurgency following the 2003 invasion of Iraq by Western forces.

· The group claimed itself a worldwide caliphate and claims religious, political, and military authority over all Muslims living worldwide.
· ISIS launched an offensive on Mosul and Tikrit in June 2014.
· In 2015, ISIS expanded a network of affiliates in around eight other countries. Its branches, supporters, and affiliates carried out attacks beyond the borders of its caliphate and killed foreign journalists and thousands of people.

2.K.K. Venugopal to be next AG
· The name of K.K. Venugopal have been recommended by the Union Law Ministry for appointment as the next Attorney General of India.
· Mr. Venugopal is a veteran lawyer and constitutional expert who has about 50 years of experience in the Supreme Court.
· His name will be announced after PM Narendra Modi’s return from the US.
· Earlier this month, the Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet had approved the extension of the term of the Law Officers including Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi but he refused to go for another term as Attorney General.
· Venugopal was also one of the additional solicitors general during the Morarji Desai government.
· He has also been appearing for the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate before the Supreme Court in the 2G-spectrum allocation scam.
· Recently, he appeared for political leader Mr. L. K. Advani and others. The charge of criminal conspiracy against them are restored now.
ATTORNEY GENERAL OF INDIA (AG)
Ø He/She is Indian government’s chief legal advisor.
Ø It is also a primary lawyer in Supreme Court.
Ø Appointed by President ad hold the office during President’s pleasure only.
Ø The post or appointment is mentioned in article 76(1) of the Indian Constitution.
Ø Venugopal will be the 15th Attorney General of India.
Ø Tenure for AG is 3 years.
Ø He is responsible to give advice to the Government of India in legal matters which are referred to him.
Ø He appears in all cases on behalf of the Government of India in Supreme Court.
Ø He has the right of audience in all courts of India and also the right to participate in the proceedings of the Parliament but he can’t vote.
Ø First AG of India was M.C. Setalvad.

3.India get a sharper eye in the sky
· Cartosat-2 series spacecraft sent pictures of railway station in Rajasthan and beautiful locations in Qatar and Egypt.
· The Cartosat-2E (Indian remote sensing) has capacity of sending 60-cm resolution pictures from an orbit 500km above the earth’s surface.
· It has panchromatic and multispectral cameras on board which will observe the Earth from a Polar sun synchronous orbit.
· It will provide Space-based data which will help in town planning, creating urban infrastructure, agriculture and project monitoring, taking decisions for Smart Cities and AMRUTH projects and many number of Land Information System (LIS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications.
· This will also reduce imagery imports for India.
· Cartosat-2E is the sixth and last for the second-generation cartography themed series which was started with Cartosat-2 in 2007.
· The second-generation series includes Cartosat-2A, 2B, 2C and 2D.
· Earlier, Indian EO’s offered only 1-metre resolution pictures.
· The prices of high resolution satellite data are six times in international market than the prices of comparable products of Indian remote-sensing satellites.

4.Trump travel ban comes into effect
· People of six Muslim-majority countries without “close” family or business relationships could be denied visas in US.
· A major exception is provided by the Judges for those who have “a credible claim of a bona fide relationship” with someone in the US.
· Close family defined as a parent, spouse, child, adult son or daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or siblings and other step-family relations.
· Close family “does not include grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, fiances, and any other ‘extended family members,”.
· Also, the relationship with a U.S. entity “must be formal, documented, and formed in an ordinary course.”
· The six Muslim-majority nations which will come under this order are Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
· The reason given for this ban by US president is national security and terrorist attacks in Paris, London, Brussels and Berlin.

5.India worst hit in APAC by Petya: Symantec
· In Asia Pacific region, India has been the worst hit country by Petya ransomware according to cybersecurity service provider Symantec.
· WanaCry was the biggest cyberattack in last month. After that Petya ransomware was the second one.
· With the encryption of files, the Petya ransomware also locks the entire disk by making it unusable until the infection is removed.
· It also shuts down the system after getting infected and asks the user for ransom of $300 in bitcoins on rebooting.
· The worst hit country by the ransomware was Ukraine as per the findings by Symantec.
· Ukraines’sinternational airport, shipping firm and advertising giant were affected because of ransomware.
· Other countries like U.S., Russia, France, the U.K., Germany, India, China and Japan were affected.
