1.         No orange passports for Indian migrant labourers

• The Indian migrant labourers wouldn’t be issued orange passports instead of usual blue colour passport.

• Passport in India is usually of three types- blue coloured passport for all, white coloured passport for government officials and red coloured passport for diplomats.

• The Passport Seva unit of the Consular, Passport and Visa Division of the Ministry of External Affairs functions as the central passport organization.      

 

2.       Market correction will impact retail investors

• The Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian has said that investors, especially small investors, need to be extra cautious about their investment in light of the risk of a sharp connection.

• He has also warned that the budget should not be a populist budget while it should follow the further path of reforms.

• He further added that growth is reviving and inflation and other things are happening then it is the time for some serious fiscal consolidation.

 

 

3.       President pitches for simultaneous poll

• In the address of joint sitting of Parliament, President Ram Nath Kovind has called for simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

• Law commission in its 170th report titled as Reforms of Electoral Laws (1999) had suggested holding elections at all levels for stability in governance.

• Indian elections are very expensive and the cost can be significantly reduced by simultaneous election. Further, it will also bring stable and speedy governance.

• There is lack of enough security and administrative officials to conduct simultaneous free and fair elections throughout the country in one go.

 

4.       India’s first newspaper celebrates its 238th anniversary

• India’s first newspaper the Hicky’s Bengal Gazette has celebrated its 238th anniversary.

 • 29th January is also celebrated as Hicky’s day to pay tributes to the fighter journalist James Hicky who is considered as founder of journalism in India.

• The first publication of Bengal Gazette was started in January 29, 1780.

 

5.        Outstanding Parliamentarian Awards for last five years

• The Parliament Group has announced Outstanding Parliamentarian awards to five Members of Parliament.

• Dr. Najma Heptulla for the year 2013, Hukumdev Narayan Yadav for the year 2014, Ghulam Nabi Azad for the year 2015, Dinesh Trivedi for the year 2016 and Bhartuhari Mahtab for the year 2017 were selected for this award.

• The award was established in the year 1992. Indrajit Gupta was the first recipient followed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
