1.        Google will bring 150 Google Station hotspots in Pune

• Under the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited’s Smart City project, Google in collaboration with construction company Larsen and Turbo will bring 150 hotspot stations in Pune.

• The company has already deployed hotspot facility at over 270 railway stations through its RailTel Wi-Fi project.

• This is the first project outside railway to have such hotspots.


2.       Soumitra Chatterji got highest civilian award of France

• The Legion of Honour, the highest civilian award in France was conferred to Soumitra Chatterji.

• Mr. Chatterji is an Indian Bengali film actor and a poet. He is best known for his collaboration with Oscar-winning film director Satyajit Ray.

• He received Dada sahib Falke Award in 2012 and he was honoured with third highest civilian award of India Padma Bhushan in 2004.


3.       INS Karanj strengthens Indian Navy’s firepower

• Navy’s third state-of-the art Scorpene Class submarine,INS Karanj, was launched by Reena Lamba, wife of Admiral Sunil Lanba.

• Six Scorpene class submarines are being built by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) under Project 75.

• The first two submarines of this class are INS Kalavari and INS Khanderi. The coming next three submarines are Vela, Vagir and Vagsheer.

• The Scorpene class submarines, Navy’s modern conventional submarine series are being built, under a $3.75 billion technology transfer signed in October 2005 with the Naval Group of France.


4.       Nod of ASI for lift near Bahubali statue

• The Archaeological Survey of India has given permission to provide lifts in the scaffolding constructed for the Gommateshwara (Bahubali) statute atop the Vindhyagiri in Shravanabelagola in the Hassan district, Karnataka.

• Bahubali son of first Jain tirthankara Adinath, is a much revered figure among Jains.

• The 57 foot Gommateshawara statue was built the Ganga dynasty minister and commander Chavundaraya.


5.       $250 million loan agreement between Govt. and ADB

• To construct all-weather roads of length over 6200 Km India has signed a $250 million dollar loan agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB).

• It will cover five states- Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).

• ADB is an international development finance institution dedicated to reduce poverty in Asia and Pacific, headquartered in Manila, Philippines.
