 1.    Smart bandage for faster wound healing

• Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati has developed a smart bandage which has antimicrobial properties for the better and faster healing of wounds.

• The bandage is made up of cotton patch coated with chitosan based hydogel loaded with graphene oxide and curcumin.

• The joint action of curcumin and graphene oxide induces superior antibacterial property.

 

2.     What is Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme?

• The Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme was launched by the union government in 2015 with an aim to change the habits of Indians from saving in physical form of gold to a paper form with Sovereign backing.

• The minimum limit of investment is 1gram of gold while maximum limit is 4 Kg of gold for an individual while a trust can invest maximum up to 20 Kg.

• The tenure of such bond will be 8 years with exit option from the 5th year is also there.

 

3.     All about silent B cells

• B cells are very helpful for immune system of body as they produce antibodies to fight infection.

• The silent B cells can be dangerous as unlike the regular B cells they can form bad antibodies which can attack oneself and cause autoimmune diseases.

• Researchers have developed a mechanism through which these silence B cells can be changed to behave like traditional B cells.

• In future there can be development of a vaccine regarding the silent B cells.

Balram Bhargava: An AIIMS professor who became Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Rajesh Ranjan: An IPS officer who has been appointed as Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Milos Forman: The famous Hollywood director who won five Oscars including those for best director and best picture for his movie “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. He died recently at the age of 86.

Ram Kumar: He was one of the India’s foremost abstract painters. He was associated with the “Progressive artist’s group’ along with M.F.Hussain, Tyeb Mehta and S.H.Raza. He died on 14th April 2018.

Vinod Khanna: A famous Bollywood actor who has been conferred “Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2017” posthumously.

Sangeeta Chakrapani: She runs an NGO “Together Foundation” in Mumbai which helps young people with autism and other intellectual impairments to lead independent lives.
