1.        India became 37th member of STA-1

·     India has become the 37th member of Strategic Trade Authorization (STA)-1after the US issued a federal notification.

·     India has become the first member which is not part of NSG (Nuclear Supplier Group) but became the member of STA-1.

·     To be a member of STA-1 a country must be a member of MTCR (Missile Technology Control Regime), Wassenaar Arrangement (WA), NSG and Australia Group (AG).

·     India is a member of MTCR, Australia Group and Wassenaar Arrangement but it is not a member of NSG mainly because of the opposition of China.


2.        Swachh Bharat Mission (Garmin)

·      Recently World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report which has hailed Modi government flagship scheme Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).

·     The scheme would reduce approx three lakh death tolls between 2014 to 2019.

· The report also states that 19 States and Union Territories were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) and 7.9 crore toilets have been built.

· Under the SBM scheme 421 districts and 4.9 lakh villages are declared ODF.


 3.        National Sports University Bill

·      Lok Sabha passed National Sports University Bill for the establishment of National Sports University.

·      The University will be established in Manipur and the passed bill will replace the promulgated ordinance on May 31, 2018.

·      This establishment will increase country’s standing in sports.

·      Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan handed over five croreth LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY).

·      Japan became the second largest stock market after US by surpassing China.

·      Law ministry cleared appointment of Justice Indira Banerjee Chief Justice of the Madras High Court as a Supreme Court judge.

·      Uttarakhand High Court has banned commercial usage of elephants in Corbett Tiger Reserve.

· Chinese scientists have created the first single chromosome yeast while not affecting the majority of functions.

· Delhi is on the top of investment index in a list of 21 States and Union Territories with the most investment potential according to a report by economic think-tank NCAER.
