1. Saffron Marigold will be the symbol of remembrance for Indian soldiers martyred in First World War during the centenary occasion of the end of the First World War on November 11

  • Poppy has been used as a symbol of remembrance of World War.

  • Initiative taken by The India Remembers project,a joint endeavour of the USI and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and a part of the ‘India and the Great War’ Centenary Commemoration project initiated by the United Service Institution of India (USI) in 2014 with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs and in close association with the British High Commission.


2. INS Vikramaditya completes ₹705­cr. Refit. Cochin Shipyard performs second refit of India’s only aircraft carrier.


3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe discussed the progress of a number of pending development projects.

During Mr. Wickremesinghe’s previous official visit to Delhi in April 2017, the two nations signed a “memorandum of understanding” for cooperation in economic projects.

4. National Police Memorial, a 30­ foot granite pillar, weighing around 238 tonnes, has been installed at Chanakyapuri in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi in recognition of the sacrifice made by nearly 35,000 police personnel killed in action since Independence.

  • The memorial will also have a ‘Wall of Valour’, engraved with the names of police personnel, including those killed in the 1965 India­ Pak war, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks of 2008 and the 2001 Parliament attack.

  • Along with it, India’s first national police museum was inagurated in Delhi by Prime Minister Modi.

  • National Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21

  • A national award in the name of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is to be distributed in honour of those policemen who risk their lives during natural disasters each year with this award.


5. HYPERION is the largest galaxy supercluster recorded of the early cosmos.

  • Hyperion has a mass 1 million billion times greater than the sun and is so distant that it is viewed from earth as it looked billions of years ago


6. India's first luxury cruise ship, Angriya to make four trips a week between Mumbai and Goa. There will be no halts in between.


7. India witnessed another flag hoisting at Red Fort  to mark the 75th anniversary of the ‘Azad Hind government’ headed by Subhas Chandra Bose.

Traditionally, the Prime Minister hoists the Tricolour at the Red Fort on Independence Day every year.

9. U.S. pulls out of the Intermediate ­range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty with Russia, a crucial Cold War ­era treaty banning the development, testing and possession of short and medium range ground ­launched nuclear missiles with a range of 500 -­ 5,000 km.

  • Trump accuses Moscow of violating Cold War-era INF treaty by deploying Novator missile

 

  • The treaty, signed in 1987, was central to ending the arms race between the  two superpowers, and protected America’s NATO allies in Europe from Soviet missile attacks.


10. State ­owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) bought Gujarat State Petroleum Corp.’s (GSPC) stake in a KG basin gas block for $1.2 billion (about ₹8,000 crore)

1. Top Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal lost to World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying and ended runner­up at the women’s singles final of Denmark Open held in Odense, Denmark


2. The Commonwealth Games and Asian Games gold medallist, Indian wrestler, Bajrang Punia enters finals.

  • Wrestler Sumit Malik reached the semifinals of the World wrestling championships  
  • World Wrestling Championship is being held in Budapest, Hungary.


3. Becky Morgan wins the 13th Hero Women's Indian Open held at Gurugram, India.


4. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen wins United States Grand Prix held in Austin.


Appointments and Resignation


1.  Indian pacer Praveen Kumar retired from all forms of cricket.

  • He played a key role in India’s title win in the Commonwealth Bank ODI tri­ series in Australia in 2008
