1. A joint working group (JWG) comprising senior officials from IRDAI and National Health Authority (NHA) has been formed to recommend measures to help improve the implementation of the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB­-PMJAY) or the health insurance scheme for the poor.


2.Polycab India Ltd., one of India’s largest manufacturers of wires and cables in terms of revenue, is planning to hit the capital markets with a primary issue.


3.The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, launched key development projects at Kalaburagi in Karnataka and Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.

  • At Kalaburagi in Karnataka, the Prime Minister dedicated the ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Bengaluru to the nation, through the unveiling of the plaque. He also inaugurated the Super Specialty Block of KIMS in Hubli, the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal building in Bangalore and the Women’s Hostel for Students from North Eastern Region at Bangalore University, through the press of button. Foundation stone for the resitement of BPCL depot Raichur to Kalaburagi was also laid by the Prime Minister through the unveiling of plaque.
  • At Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister launched various National Highway projects, including the foundation stone for the four laning of NH-45C from Vikravandi to Thanjavur and the six laning of Karaipettai – Walajapet section of NH-4. He dedicated the 5 MMTPA capacity Ennore LNG Terminal to the nation. The LNG terminal will help in meeting the LNG demand in Tamil Nadu and neighboring States. He also dedicated the electrification of Erode-Karur-Tiruchchirappalli and Salem-Karur-Dindigul railway lines to the nation.
  • The Prime Minister also unveiled the statue of Dr. MG Ramachandran at Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts & Science for Women, Chennai through video link.

4.The Ministry of Women and Child Development hosted a felicitation event for Web Wonder Women, a campaign organised to celebrate the exceptional achievements of women, who have been driving social reforms via social media.

  • As many as 30 women, who were selected after an extensive research process, were honoured by the Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in New Delhi, on 6th March, 2019.

5.Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has granted provisional recognition  to Kudo International Federation India(KIFI) as National Sport Federation with immediate effect.  

  • The grant of recognition is subject to compliance of the provisions of National Sports Development Code of India, 2011 as modified from time to time, by the federation including displaying information on their website as per the instructions issued by the Ministry.

6.In order to identify seismically hazardous zones and encourage mapping activities, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) launched 22 permanent Global Positioning System (GPS) stations across India, which is a part of its objective to establish and maintain a network of continuously operating 35 permanent GPS stations in a phased manner.


7.‘Azadi Ke Diwane’ museum was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Culture (Independent charge) and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Mahesh Sharma at the Red Fort Complex in Delhi. The museum has been dedicated to the freedom fighters of our country.


8.BOLD-QIT which is Border Electronically Dominated QRT Interception Technique was inaugurated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on 61 km India-Bangladesh border in Dhubri, Assam.

9.Gurugram in the National Capital Region (NCR) emerged as the most polluted region in the world in 2018 as per 2018 World Air Quality Report.

                      Awards and Recognition

10.Indore was adjudged India’s cleanest city for the third year in a row in the Centre’s ‘Cleanliness Survey’.

  • The second and third positions were taken by Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh and Mysore in Karnataka.  
  • The Swachh Survekshan awards 2019 were conferred by President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi

11.TVS Motor was awarded the ‘Green Era Award for Sustainability’ at Lisbon, Portugal. The company also won the ‘Quality and Business Excellence Award’ for its unmatched product quality. The research for the awards was conducted by Otherways Management and Consulting, France.


12.A Guinness World Record in Yoga was set by more than a thousand people who performed the Virabhadrasana or the Warrior II Pose for 3 minutes, in Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, Hong Kong.


                   Appointment and Resignation
13.Indian Sports Administrator Randhir Singh appointed as the Chairman of Coordination Committee of 2022 Asian Games which will be hosted in Hangzhou, China.


14.Kaja Kallas, the leader of the Reform Party has been appointed as the first female Prime Minister of Estonia, after the liberal Reform Party declared victory in the elections against centre-left Prime Minister Juri Ratas party.

15.P Venkata Ramesh Babu has been appointed as the Director General of the National Archives of India by the Central government.


  • He is an IAS officer from the 1985 batch and is currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Rural Electrification Corporation Limited. Previously, he was the Principal Secretary, Department of Finance in Andhra Pradesh government.

16.The book “Designing Destiny: The Heartfulness Way” which has been written by spiritual teacher Kamlesh Patel who is famously known as Daaji, was launched recently. The book deals with issues pertaining to destiny and the way it shapes someone’s life.

  • Shri Narendra Modi in the direction of making quality healthcare affordable for all, the Government has taken important steps to make affordable and quality generic medicines popular among the people through Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)

                                          Obituary

18.Bharat Mohan Adhikari, who was the former Deputy Prime Minister and senior Communist leader of Nepal, passed away at the age of 83 in Kathmandu, Nepal.


19.Former New Zealand batsman Bill Playle, passed away in New South Wales, Australia at the age of 80.


20.Former Union Minister V. Dhananjay Kumar died in Mangalore, Karnataka. He was 68 and the reason of his death has been ascertained due to ailments.

21.Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019’s official partner, TATA Motors, will promote its newly-launched SUV, Harrier, as its lead brand at the event and showcase the SUV by means of the IPL platform.


22.Mexican open which is a part of 2019 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour and 2019 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association)Tour, was held between 25th February and 2nd March 2019 at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Mexico.
