1.The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informed the National Green Tribunal that around 1 crore trees have been planted across the country along highways in the past three years to maintain ecology and environmental balance.

  • A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was not satisfied with the report furnished and directed senior the NHAI officials to be present before the Tribunal.

2.The Telangana State continued to perform well in terms of economic growth and there was no cause for concern on its financial health, said K. Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary, Finance.

  • According to the details of just ­concluded financial year 2018­-19 based on the data from Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
  • Telangana Gross State Domestic Product, as furnished by the Central Statistical Organisation, was ₹8,66,875 crore and it registered a growth of 15% over that of 2017-­18 with a GSDP of ₹7,53,804 crore.

3.India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C46) successfully launched the RISAT-2B satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

  • This was the 72nd launch vehicle mission from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota and 36th launch from the First Launch pad.
  • PSLV-C46 lifted-off at 05:30 Hrs from the First Launch Pad and injected RISAT-2B into a orbit of 556 km, about 15 minutes and 25 seconds after lift-off.

4.IAF successfully fired the BrahMos air version missile from its frontline Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft.  The launch from the aircraft was smooth and the missile followed the desired trajectory before directly hitting the land target.

  • The air launched BrahMos missile is a 2.5 ton supersonic air to surface cruise missile with ranges of close to 300 km, designed and developed by BAPL.
  • The IAF became the first Air Force in the world to have successfully fired an air launched 2.8 Mach surface attack missile of this category on a sea target on 22 Nov 17. It was the second such live launch of the weapon.

5.Nepal banned popular Chinese digital wallets Alipay and WeChat to prevent the loss of foreign currency earnings from tens of thousands of Chinese tourists.

6.Joko Widodo re­-elected  as Indonesia’s President

  • Mr Widodo won 55.5% of the vote to Mr Prabowo's 44.5%, the election commission said. More than 192 million people were eligible to vote in the 17 April poll, choosing 20,000 local and national lawmakers.

  • The India Book of Records has written his name for maximum hands­free side sit­ups in a minute by a child.

9.Three ­times Formula One champion Niki Lauda, regarded as one of the finest racers of all time and who later became a successful airline entrepreneur, has died at 70 after battling declining health.

10.Twenty-Two Indian women boxers including MC Mary Kom have assured medals by entering the Semi-Finals of India Open International Boxing tournament in Guwahati.

  • Ace boxer Mary Kom had an easy win against Nepal's Mala Rai in the Quarter Final last night. She will face compatriot Nikhat Zareen in the much anticipated Semi-Final in the 51 kg category.

11.Helo, India's social media platform became team sponsor of Indian Wheelchair Cricket Association(WCA) for Team India for Asia Cup 2019. It was scheduled from May 15 to 18 in Nepal.

  • Helo became the first social media app to host and promote Indian Wheelchair Cricket.
