1.Hon'ble Lt Governor of Delhi Shri Anil Baijal inaugurated the Sahara Naval Hostel for the ‘Veer Naris’ at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

  • Admiral Sunil Lanba,Chief of the Naval Staff and Mrs Reena Lanba, President Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) were also present in addition to several senior naval and civilian officials.
  • The unique project steered by the Indian Navy for ‘Naval Veer Naris’ has been built in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership with National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).

2.The Second Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Mass Media Forum is being held at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from 23-26 May, 2019.

  • A Delegation from I&B Ministry comprising of Shri TVK Reddy, Addl. Director General and Shri Ankur Lahoty, Asst. Director is representing India at the Forum.
  • The Forum was inaugurated by the President of Kyrgyz Republic Mr. S. Jeenbeko.
  • The President in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of Mass Media organizations of SCO countries in accomplishing the SCO objectives of mutual trust, friendly relations with neighbors and regional security in line with the “Shanghai Spirit”.

3. The BJP which swept all the seven seats in Delhi, set new records in five constituencies where its candidates defeated their opponents with the highest margins ever.

  • Parvesh Verma, the sitting MP from the West Delhi constituency, won a second term with a record-breaking margin of 5.78 lakh votes. The runner-up, Congress's Mahabal Mishra, got 2,87,162 votes.
  • Verma broke his own record for the highest victory margin in Delhi.
  • In 2014, he had trounced his closest rival, Jarnail Singh of the AAP, by a margin of 2,68,586 votes. This time, he got 8,65,648 of the total 14,41,601 votes polled in the seat.

4.The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which was blamed for the terror attack at a cafe in Dhaka in 2016 in which 22 people including 17 foreigners were killed, has been declared as a banned terrorist organisation by the government.

  • The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen India or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan and all its manifestations have been inserted in the First Schedule to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

5.The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired an indigenously developed 500 kg class guided bomb from a Sukhoi combat jet at Pokhran in Rajasthan.

  • The defence ministry said the guided bomb achieved the desired range and hit the target with high precision.
  • The DRDO successfully flight tested a 500 kg class Inertial Guided Bomb from Su 30 MKI Aircraft from the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan.

6.The second Urban 20 Summit will be hosted by Governor Koike of Tokyo on 21-22 May 2019.

  • After a successful first U20 Summit in Buenos Aires, U20 cities continue to engage with G20 and call on their national governments to work together to address the most pressing challenges our world is facing.
  • The Summit will be two-days event that will address issues like climate action, circular economy, social inclusion, sustainable economic growth, and gender equality, as well as their linkages with the 2030 Agenda. During the Summit, U20 Mayors will hand a Communique with their joint policy positions to the G20 Chair.

             Appointment and Resignation

7.TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment) Ltd. has roped in actor Akshay Kumar as brand ambassador for Massey Ferguson tractors.

  • Reputed for its ‘futuristic technology, international styling and ergonomics’, the Massey Ferguson range offers ‘robust performance and uncompromising quality’ with over 125 products.

8.Four new judges were appointed at the Supreme Court. Justice B.R. Gavai will become the CJI for over six months in 2025. He will be the second Chief Justice of India from the Scheduled Caste community after Justice (Retd.) K.G. Balakrishnan.

  • Justice Surya Kant will succeed Justice Gavai as the CJI in November 2025. He will remain in office till February 2027.
  • The two other judges are Jharkhand High Court and Gauhati High Court Chief Justices Aniruddha Bose and A.S. Bopanna.  

9.Chandrani Murmu, 25 years old, who won the Keonjhar Lok Sabha seat (reserved for STs ) on a BJD ticket, will enter the Lok Sabha as the youngest member in the Lower House’s history.


10.Odisha ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, is all set to form a government for a fifth consecutive term.


11.Andhra pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu submitted his resignation to the state and congress chief, Jaganmohan Reddy will take oath as the state's chief minister on May 30 in Vijayawada.

  • On the same day, elected MLAs of the YSR Congress will meet and elect Reddy as their leader.

               Awards and Recognition

12.The Barcelona-based Fundacio Joan Miro has announced Indian contemporary artist Nalini Malani has won the Joan Miro Prize for 2019.

  • One of the most prestigious contemporary art awards in the world, it recognises present-day work by artists who show the same spirit of exploration, innovation, commitment and freedom that characterised Spanish painter and sculptor Joan Miro's life and work.

13.National Missing Children’s Day has been commemorated each year on May 25th since 1983, when it was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan.

  • There was a series of high-profile missing children cases that made national headlines in the several years following the establishment of National Missing Children’s day.

14.L. Sarita Devi beats Simranjit Kaur for the women’s 60kg gold medal in the India Open international boxing tournament at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium.


15.Marcello Lippi, fondly known in China as ‘Silver Fox’ on account of his hair, was back as China coach, four months after he quit and following a failed stint by fellow Italian Fabio Cannavaro.
