1.Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Maldives, his first state visit abroad since being re-elected to office, was marked by the signing of six key agreements and substantive bilateral level talks, reaffirming cooperation between the two countries.

2.An ancient Buddhist site in Uttar Pradesh's Sarnath known as Chaukhandi Stupa has been declared to be “of national importance” by the Archaeological Survey of India.

  • The government had sought public feedback on March 8 for a period of two months

3.India and Portugal will cooperate in the setting up of a national maritime heritage museum at Lothal in Gujarat.  

  • The Indian Navy is keen to be a stakeholder in the project and the Portuguese Navy has agreed to assist with their experience of administering the maritime museum in Lisbon.
  • Initial discussions were held during the visit of Portuguese Defence Minister João Gomes Cravinho to India in April.
  • The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Shipping through its Sagarmala programme, with the involvement of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the State government and other stakeholders.

4.US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo will deliver a major policy speech on how India and the US lay a economic foundation for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

  • Pompeo will deliver the keynote address on "The US and India: An Economic Foundation for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific" at the US-India Business Council India Ideas Summit.
  • US Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross is also scheduled to address US-India Business Council (USIBC) India Ideas Summit on June 12 and June 13.

5.State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s biggest mass-lender, began a new era of transparency in consumer loans by linking the pricing of its home-financing products to the central bank policy rate used for setting the broader cost of debt in the economy.

  • The consumers would have the option to take SBI home loans pegged to the central bank repo rate, the lender said in a statement a day after the cost of funds was set at the lowest since 2010.
  • The bank will continue to offer home-loan products linked to the marginal cost of lending rate (MCLR), but customers can opt for a repo linked home loan rate.

6.The Maldivian government honoured Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi with ‘The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen’, the highest honour conferred by Male on foreign dignitaries.

  • The countries discuss possible cooperation in cricket, Mr. Modi presented President Solih, a cricket enthusiast himself, with a cricket bat signed by the Indian team currently playing the World Cup series in England.

7.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has chosen Mekathoti Sucharitha, for the Home Ministry.  

  • Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy was given the key portfolio by YSR in his Cabinet.

8.Senior legislator S V C Appalanaidu has taken oath as the pro-tem Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

  • Appalanaidu has been elected to the Assembly for the fourth time.

9.Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty resigned as Member of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board.

  • She was sworn in as a member in May last year for a second time. She was reappointed to the Board after the earlier term ended.

10.Jammu and Kashmir government removed Parvez Ahmad as chairman cum managing director of the bank and appointed R K Chhibber as interim chairman and managing director of the bank.

  • Chhibber, who has served as chairman Grameen Bank and was one of the executive presidents of the J&K bank, would be the first non-Kashmiri to hold the position of chairman in the Bank.


11.Ashleigh Barty ended Australia’s 46 ­year wait for a French Open singles title by thrashing nervous Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova in a one ­sided women’s final.

12.Indian football team beat Thailand to hand head coach Igor Stimac his first win and finish third in the King’s Cup
