1. National Education Day -11th November :



  • National Education Day’ is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad . 
  • He was the first Education Minister of India from 15th August 1947 to 2nd February 1958. 
  • He was also India’s first Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD).
  • The name Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) was coined by him & also called father of IIT.
  • First IIT came into establishment at Kharagpur in 1950.
  • Under the leadership of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad-HRD Minister, a committee headed by S. Radhakrishnan extended the role of University Grant Commission (UGC) to supervise the work of all Indian universities which was earlier limited to three central universities, namely Aligarh, Benaras and Delhi.
  • He also laid the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in 1909, then known as the Tata Institute & also set up the ‘Central Institute of Education, Delhi’, which later became part of Delhi University.


2. “Swachh – Nirmal Tat Abhiyaan” started on 11th to 17th November :


  • It is a week-long intensive Beach Cleaning Drive in 50 identified beaches start on 11th November.
  • Beaches at coastal areas of Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.
  • These clean beaches create awareness amongst citizens about the importance of coastal ecosystems.
  • Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) are undertaking a mass cleanliness-cum-awareness drive.
  • Waste collected will be processed as per extant Waste Management Rules, 2016.


3.  Harmonised System (HS Code ) for Khadi :


  • ‘HS Code’ is a six-digit identification code developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO).
  • Ministry of Commerce and Industry allocated a separate Harmonised System (HS) code for Khadi .It will boost Khadi exports.
  • It is an ‘Universal Economic Language” for goods & is a multipurpose international product nomenclature. 
  • This system helps in harmonising of customs and trade procedures & reduces costs in international trade.
  • HS Code system currently comprises of around 5,000 commodity groups, each identified by a unique six-digit code. 
  • In the absence of a separate HS code, Khadi was hindered from achieving its full potential as its exports were difficult to categorise and calculate.


4. Deepak Chahar - First male cricketer from India to take a T20 International hat-trick:


  • Deepak Lokendrasingh Chahar became the first male cricketer from India to take a T20 International hat-trick.
  • He is 27 years old born at Agra.
  • He is one of the Chennai Super Kings’ successful new ball bowlers.

5. Index of Industrial Production (IIP) shrinks by 4.3% to lowest in 8 years :

  • IIP shows the growth rates in different industry groups of the economy in a specified period of time. 
  • IIP is computed and released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO).
  • This is the first time since November 2012 that all three broad based sectors have contracted .
  • Industrial activity in September contracted sharply by 4.3%, which is mainly driven by major slowdowns in the capital goods, mining, and manufacturing sectors. 
  • In this Index ,capital goods sector saw a contraction of 20.7%, compared with shrinkage of 21% in August.
  • In the previous (2004- ­05) base- IIP in October 2011 contracted by 5%.

6. Union Govt. begins work on NCR Regional Plan 2041 :

  • Process of preparing a 20 ­year plan ‘’NCR Regional Plan 2041’’ is started & expected to be completed by September 2021.
  • It will Improve the rank of NCR on ease of living index, which will be a priority of this plan.
  • Population of NCR is expected to increase from 6 crore as on 2019 to 11 crore in 2041.
  • Its goals are to enhance liveability, economic activity and sustainability of the National Capital Region .
  • NCR comprises of Delhi, 13 districts of Haryana, 9 of Uttar Pradesh and 2 of Rajasthan, spread over 55,083 sqkm.

7. ‘Suranga Bawadi’ enters ‘World Monument Watch list’ :

  • Suranga Bawadi which is an integral part of the ancient Karez system of supplying water through subterranean tunnels built during the Adil Shahi era in Karnataka’s Vijayapura
  • Adil Shahis built the Karez underground water system in the 16th century to supply water to Vijayapura .
  • It is included in the World Monument Watch list for 2020 along with 24 other monuments from across the world.
  • With this tag Suranga Bawadi is expected to get funds for restoration within the next two years.

8. Committee set up to draft new ‘National Water Policy’ :

  • Union Water Resources Ministry has finalised a committee to draft a new National Water Policy (NWP).
  • This committee will be chaired by Mihir Shah, who is a former Planning Commission member and a water expert.
  • NWP currently in force was drafted in 2012.
  • Among the major innovations in the 2012 policy was the concept of an Integrated Water Resources Management approach that took the “river basin/ sub basin” as a unit for planning.
  • The policy currently in force prescribes minimum water flow level for rivers to meet ecological needs. 
  • New NWP to make key changes in water governance structure and regulatory framework.
  • A ‘National Bureau of Water Use Efficiency’ will also be set up.

9. BRICS Summit at Brazil from 13th to 14th November :

  • PM Narendra Modi will be in Brasilia, Brazil on 13th - 14th November 2019 to attend the 11th BRICS summit.
  • Theme ‘Economic Growth for an Innovative Future’.
  • This is the 6th time that PM Modi will be participating at the BRICS summit. First BRICS summit attended by PM Modi was at Fortaleza in Brazil in 2014.
  • This summit will focus on challenges and opportunities for the exercise of national sovereignty in the contemporary world.
  • This summit together consist of five major emerging economies comprising 42 percent of the world's population, having 23 percent of the global GDP and around 17 percent of the share and world trade.

10. Inaugural session of India-ASEAN Business Summit :

  • India- ASEAN Business Summit on the theme: “Today, Tomorrow, Together” is being organised to strengthen trade & investment flows with ASEAN Economies conference is to enhance the trade trajectory between India and ASEAN.
  • This collaboration with ASEAN to play an important role in India’s 5 trillion USD economy. 
  • India will soon achieve the target of 5 trillion USD economy target collaboration with ASEAN countries .
