1.Admiral Christophe Prazuck, Chief of the Naval Staff, French Navy is visiting India from 06 January to 9 January in conjunction with Raisina Dialogue (08-09 Jan).

  • The visit aims to consolidate bilateral naval relations between India and France, as also to explore new avenues for naval cooperation.

2.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu unveiled various welfare scheme for the marginalized and economically backward Brahmins through AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation such as distribution of Cars to the Unemployed Brahmin youths, loans and subsidies.

3.The High Level Committee (HLC) has been notified by government for implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord.

  • It is headed by Shri M.P. Bezbaruah and includes eminent Assamese persons from different fields.
  • The Committee will submit its report within 6 months from the date of notification.
  • The State Government of Assam will provide necessary administrative and logistic support to the Committee.

4.Secunderabad Railway Station, in Hyderabad, became the first railway station of South Central Railway (SCR) zone to hoist a huge flag a 100-foot tall pole.

5.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a notification for all authorised non-bank Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) Issuers in order to limit the liability of Customers in unauthorised electronic payment transactions in Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) comprising mobile wallets, prepaid payments cards, and paper vouchers such as Sodexo.

6.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is riding his nation-wide campaign on the reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.

  • He announced a slew of incentives for women self-help groups (WSHGs) of the State, including interest-free loans up to Rs 3 lakh.
  • He stated  to give interest-free loans of up to Rs.3 lakh for six lakh women self-help groups (WSHGs) benefitting about 70 lakh women in Odisha.
  • This was announced at the ‘Mission Shakti’ convention attended by about 50,000 women.

                    Awards and Recognition

7.The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu conferred awards on 17 persons for their outstanding contribution in different fields of textiles sector in New Delhi. During the ceremony he was presented commemorative stamps on GI registered handicrafts.

8.Veteran journalist Dinu Ranadive was conferred with the lifetime achievement award for his lifelong contributions in journalism, who started his journalistic career in 1956.

9.Kevin Sweeney, the chief of staff of the US Department of Defence, resigned from his position.


10.The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) will organize the 2019 ATP World Tour which is the global elite men’s professional tennis tournament featuring 63 tournaments in 31 countries across six continents, in addition to the four Grand Slams for the 2019 tennis season.

11.Rohit Danu became I-League’s youngest ever goalscorer while scoring a goal on the ongoing match against Aizawl FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl, Mizoram.
