1. The meeting of the 15th Finance Commission headed by Shri N K Singh was held with the State Government of Odisha headed by Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar.

  • There were also the Ministers of Finance, Parliamentary Affairs & Rural Development, Health & Family Welfare of Odisha Government along with Senior Officials of the State Government.
  • Responding to the deliberations of the meeting, the Commission appreciated a number of  steps taken by the State Government for the progress of the States.

2.The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has lauded the passage of the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha.

  • Delighted the Rajya Sabha has passed the Constitution (One Hundred And Twenty-Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2019. Glad to see such widespread support for the Bill. The House also witnessed a vibrant debate, where several members expressed their insightful opinions.

3.Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Radha Mohan Singh has said that National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT) besides being responsible for training, awareness and evaluation programmes of employees working in the cooperative sector also facilitates the same for other stakeholders in the cooperative sector in the country.

  • The main objective of the NCCT is to facilitate the human resource development in the cooperatives in the country. The Minister was addressing 2nd Governing Council meeting of National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT) and launch of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC’s) model for cooperatives as Modern banking Unit.

4.Shri RK Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy announced the completion of the project to replace 50,000 conventional electricity meters with smart meters in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area.

  • Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Super Energy Service Company (ESCO) under Ministry of Power has implemented this project. With this, NDMC has become the first distribution company (DISCOM) in India to implement 100 per cent smart metering solution.
  • The adoption of smart meters will enhance consumer convenience and rationalise electricity consumption.

5.The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri. Conrad K Sangma, inaugurated the project “Development of North East Circuit: Umiam (Lake View) - U Lum Sohpetbneng- Mawdiangdiang - Orchid Lake Resort” implemented under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in presence of the Minister of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh, the Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Shri Yogendra Tripathi, and the Chairman, Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., Shri Sanbor Shullai in Umiam.

6.The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has launched an online campaign, ‘#www :  Web- Wonder Women’. The Campaign aims to discover and celebrate the exceptional achievements of women, who have been driving positive agenda of social change via social media. Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development; Mr. Colin Crowell, Global Head, Public Policy, Twitter; and Ms. Sohini Bhattacharya, President & CEO, Breakthrough, were present during the launch.

7..Union Cabinet has approved Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities of Assam.

  • The communities that are proposed to be extended ST status include, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Chutiya, Matak, Moran and the tea tribes.
  • The move came before the centre introduced the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 in Lok Sabha.this amendment bill will give a status to the various tribal people

9.The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) proposed renaming of the Indian Forest Service as Indian Forest and Tribal Service.

10.The Reserve Bank of India has allowed tokenization of debit, credit and prepaid card transactions to enhance the safety of the digital payments ecosystem in the country.

11.NAB VENTURES Ltd, the venture capital entity incorporated by NABARD under the Companies Act, will launch its maiden early stage capital fund offer to agriculture and rural enterprises.

12.India GDP is expected to grow at 7.3% in the fiscal year 2018­-19, and 7.5% in the following two years, the World Bank has forecast, attributing it to an upswing in consumption and investment.

                   Awards and Recognition

13.The Polavaram project of Andhra pradesh got its place in the Guinness book of world record.

  • This project entered the guinness by pouring 32,315.5 cubic meters of concrete non-stop in 24 hours.This project surpassed the leading record of 21,580 cubic metres which was achieved by Abdul Wahed Bin Shabib project

                    Appointment and Resignation

14.N. Ram, chairman, THG Publishing Private Limited, has been appointed president of the Alliance for Media Freedom (AFMF), a cross ­media advocacy and action group of media organisations, promoters and journalists.


15. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was conferred with the 2018 Confederation of African Football Player of the Year award, for the second time, in Senegal.

16.Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee announced that Egypt will host African Cup for the fifth time in 2019. South Africa was the other country who made a bid to host the event.
