1.Star Air India, which received its scheduled commuter airline permit last week, will start operating flights from January 25.

  • Owned by Kolhapur­ based gutka and pan masala ‘king’ Sanjay Ghodawat, the airline will begin with flights on two routes Bengaluru ­Hubli and Hubli ­Tirupati


2.Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Shailendra Kumar has suggested early Assembly election in the State, assuring full preparedness, in a presentation made to the Election Commission in New Delhi


3.The Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi stressed upon the need for training and development of elected women representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to ensure that fruit of development may reach the grassroots level through their active participation and actual empowerment.

4.Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India is organizing the 9th International Micro Irrigation Conference on Modern Agriculture at Aurangabad in Maharashtra from January 16–18, 2019, in association with International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), Indian National Committee on Surface Water (INCSW) and WAPCOS Limited, a CPSE under the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.


5.Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the project “Development of Spiritual Circuit: Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple-Aranmula-Sabarimala” being implemented under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in the presence of Shri Palanisamy Sathasivam Governor of Kerala, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri K.J. 6.Central Government declares 14th January, 2019 as The Date on Which Provisions of Constitution (One Hundred and Third Amendment) Act, 2019 shall come in to force


7.Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation the 13 km, 2 lane Kollam bypass on NH-66 in Kerala.

  • The Bypass has been constructed at a cost of Rs 352 core, this highway has three major bridges over Ashtamudi Lake. The project will ease traffic congestion around Kollam town and reduce the travel time between Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram.


8.Union Minister of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Environment and Forests and Climate Change, Dr Harshvardhan launched the special weather services for the benefit of people visiting Prayagraj during Kumbh Mela at a function in New Delhi.


9.The Commerce Ministry announced that the Government eMarketplace [GeM] launched “Womaniya on GeM” initiative to enable women entrepreneurs and women self-help groups [WSHGs] to sell handicrafts and handloom, accessories, etc. directly to various Government ministries, departments and institutions.


10.The National Wildlife Board after receiving recommendations from the state Wildlife Board, approved extraction of natural gas from Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary by state-owned ONGC Tripura Asset.

Dhanya Sanal, a spokesperson of the Defence Ministry in Thiruvananthapuram, created a record of sports when she became the first woman trekker to commence a testing hike up the 1,868­ metre Agasthyarkoodam hill, following the recent lifting of a ban that prevented women from trekking beyond Athirumala

12.The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, received the first-ever Philip Kotler Presidential award, at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in New Delhi.

The Award focuses on the triple bottom-line of People, Profit and Planet. It will be offered annually to the leader of a Nation.
