A p-n junction diode is a seniconductor device. It is two terminal device. It is a basic device in the electonics field. It is constructed by a p type semiconductor and a n type semiconductor. The p terminal is more positive than the n terminal. Hence pn junction diode can work in forward bias and reverse bias. When in forward bias it conducts while in reverse bias it does not conduct. Hence it can also be used as a switch. There is a formation of depletion layer when a p type and n type semiconductor is joint. The p type contains holes and the n type contains electons. Doping is done in both the wafers.
a p-n junction diode is basically a switch. this is made by merging one p type and one n type semiconductor.when this is forward biased it acts as closed switch. when it is forward biased this act as open switch. it pass current only in one direction and this direction is forward direction.in reverse direction resistance is very high.diode is used in many circuits.this is a two terminal device.for v>0,i>0. for v=0,i=0
For making p-n junction diode we took one P-type diode and other N-type diode.we fabricate both diodes for which we make p-n junction diode.
after increasing voltage the junction break down, that voltage known as cut off voltage. For Silicon this is 0.3V and for Ge that is 0.7 voltage.
After that voltage current flow rapidly.
Itis a device which used in making transistor.
pn junction diode p-type diode and n-diode and other n-type , we can fabricate both diodes for making p-n diode , afer increasing voltage the juction break down that voltage known as cut off voltage , mostly its device using in transistor
A P-N Junction Diode is one of the simplest Semiconductor Devices around, and which has the characteristic of passing current in only one direction only. However, unlike a resistor, a diode does not behave linearly with respect to the applied voltage as the diode has an exponential current-voltage ( I-V ) relationship and therefore we can not described its operation by simply using an equation such as Ohm’s law.
