 1.    What is National Digital Communication Policy 2018?

• The National Digital Communication Policy 2018 is focused on futuristic broadband technology such as the fifth generation technology (5G) technology as well as Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

• It aims to have universal broadband coverage, creating four million jobs in digital communication sector, enhancing contribution of digital communication sector to 8% of India’s GDP from around 6% in 2017, enhancing India’s contribution to global value of chains and ensuring digital sovereignty.

• The objective of this policy to improve India’s rank in ICT development index to top 50, from 134 in 2017.

• The policy has set all the targets for the year 2022.


2.    InSight: NASA’s mission to study interior of Mars

• NASA will launch Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight ) on May 5.

• It will be first mission to peer deep beneath the Martian surface, studying the planet’s interior by measuring its heat output and listening for the quakes on Mars.

• Using the seismic waves generated on Mars the mission will develop a map of the planet’s interior.  


3.   Gandikota fort adopted by Dalmia group

• Under “Adopt a Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan” programme of Government of India (GOI) Gandikota Fort was adopted by Dalmia group.

• The programme is a joint effort of Ministry of Tourism, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), states and Union Territories.

• The programme will allow the company who adopted the heritage to develop the heritage for the tourism purpose.


4.    World Asthma Day: 01st May

• World Asthama Day was celebrated on 1st of May worldwide.

• Asthama (a chronic lung disease) is caused by inflammation of the airways.

• The theme of the year 2018 is “Never too early, never too late”.

• International Labour Day was also celebrated on 01st May to promote and encourage the International Labour associations.
