 1.     Nipah Virus

·        Nipah Virus infection is a newly emerging zoonosis which is a disease transmitted from animals to humans.

·        The symptoms of the disease are similar to that of influenza in which fever, muscle pain and respiratory problems are reported.

·        There are no vaccines currently either for human or animal.

·        There are report of various death in Kerala due to this virus.



2.     Kumaraswamy is new CM of Karnataka

·        H.D. Kumaraswami of Janta Dal (Secular) party has become the Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka.

·        Mr. Kumaraswami has become CM second time earlier he lead BJP-JDS coalition government for 20 months in 2006-07.

·        Congress’s G. Parmeshwara will be the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.



3.     May 22: International Biological Diversity Day

·        The theme of this year is “Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity”.

·        The day is celebrated to make people aware of the importance of biodiversity issues.

·        The May 22 celebration commemorates the date of Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity at Nairobi on May 22 1992.



4.     Gobind Singh Deo  Malasyia’s first Sikh minister

·        Indian-Origin Sikh a lawyer turned politician Gobind Singh Deo has become a Cabinet Minister in Malaysia.

·        He has also become the first member to be minister from minority community in Malaysian history.

·        He is communication and multi-media minister in Mahatir Mohammad (World’s oldest age prime-mister 93 years of age)  cabinet.
