 1.       Pulitzer Prize to Lamar

·       Kendrick Lamar has achieved the Pulitzer Prize for his 2017 album “DAMN”.

·       He became the first non-classical musician to win Pulitzer Prize for music.

·       Pulitzer Prizes are given for achievements in journalism, literature, newspaper, magazine, online journalism and musical composition.

·       The award are presented by Columbia University (USA) and first awarded in 1917.

 

2.       Cauvery Water Management  Authority

·       The authority will be headed by a chairman and it will have two whole time and many part time members.

·       The constitution of authority will address the water dispute involving the states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

·        Article 262 of the Constitution of India entitles Parliament to adjudicate any dispute or complaint with respect to use, distribution or control of the waters for Inter-state River or river valley.

·       There are two acts so far- River Board Act, 1956 and Inter-State water Dispute Act, 1956.

 

 

3.       Core industries growth is 4.7% in April

·       The eight core industries have achieved 4.7% of growth rate in April 2018.

·       There are 8 core industries in India- Coal (+2.6%), Crude Oil (-0.8%), Natural Gas (+7.4%), Petroleum refinery (+2.7%), Fertilizers (+4.6%), Steel (+3.5%), Cement (+16.6%) and Electricity (+2.2%).

·       Core industries constitute 40.27% of the total Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
