1.        Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP)

·      SVEEP portal is a launched by election Commission of India (ECI) for the voter education.

·      SVEEP is a program of multi interventions through media to educate citizen, electors and voters about the electoral process to increase awareness and participation in the electoral process.

·      It has technology of enhanced interaction with the citizens through social-media, online contests and voter’s festival etc.

 

2.        Van Dhan Vikas Kendras

·      It is a scheme of Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Tribal Cooperative Market Development Federation of India (TRIFED) which was recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

·      The scheme helps such tribal people who are involved in collection of Minor Food Produces (MFPs) by helping them in optimum utilization of natural resources and provides them sustainable livelihood.

·      TRIFED will provide required trainings and technical assistance to tribal people.

 

3.        Hike in MSP of Paddy

·      Union Cabinet has given approval for the hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy by a steep Rs. 200 per quintal.

·      The promise to increase the MSP such that MSP will be 1.5 times of cost of production is the part of budget 2018-19 present in February this year.  

·      Cabinet committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) takes final decision on MSP of various crops on the advice of Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP).

·     The Food Corporation of India (FCI) is entitled to procure and distribute food grains and it buys wheat and rice from farmers and supply it under the food security law.

 

4.        Link between low Vitamin D and diabetes

·      A study conducted by Fortis C-Doc in association with AIIMs has confirmed that an inverse relationship is there between Vitamin D levels and blood sugar levels.

·      Vitamin D has a direct effect on the pancreatic beta cell function which increase insulin production.

·      Vitamin D is present in various items such as eggs, milk, salmon, tuna and mushroom and it is generated endogenously when ultra-violet rays hit the skin.

·    The study also emphasized the problem that women from lower socio-economic groups are more likely to have higher deficiency of Vitamin D.

·     Diabetes can be major cause for various diseases like blindness, kidney failure, hear attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation.

·   According to WHO, diabetes is a chronic disease having no cure and it occurs when pancreas is not able to produce insulin or when body cannot use the insulin it produces effectively.
