1.        Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away at 93

·        Former Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on August 16, 2018

·        He was the first Prime Minister from Bhartiya Janta Party and was the first President of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).

·        He was the first non-congress Prime Minister of India who completed the 5 year tenure.

·        He became Prime Minister of India three times in the year 1996, 1998 and 1999.

·        He also served as the Finance Minister of India in 1977 under the Prime Minster Morarji Desai.

·        He was elected for Lok Sabha ten times and Rajya Sabha two times.

·        He was born on December 25, 1924 in Gwalior and his birthday is celebrated as “Good Governance Day”.

·        He represented Lok Sabha first time in 1957-62 from Balrampur (UP) and last time from Lucknow (2004-09).

·        He was conferred with “Bharat Ratna” the highest civilian award in 2015 and was also conferred with “Best Parliamentarian Award”.

·        Apart from a great politician, he was also a great poet.

 2.        More Secured UPI by NPCI

·        National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched Unified Payment Interface (UPI) 2.0 on Aug 16, 2018.

·        It is an updated version of UPI which will give overdraft facility to the customers apart from saving and current account.

·        It will also give facility to check invoice sent by merchants prior to making payments.

3.        TCS is most valued company

·        Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has become most valued company in terms of market capitalization.

·        TCS has dethroned Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) to clinch the title of most valued company.

·        The market capitalization of a company fluctuates on the daily basis with stock price movement.

4.        One liner Current Affairs

·        Country’s first Humboldt penguin was born on 15th August at Mumbai’s Veer Jijamata Udyan.

·        The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the ceiling of price for 92 drugs formulation in which treatment of cancer, hepatitis C, migraine and diabetes are included.

·        Railway Ministry has launched digital screens to spread awareness among public about the heritage of Indian Railway.

·        Cabinet Secretary has constituted a committee chaired by the chairman of Central Water Commission for Mullaperiyar dam of Kerala.
