1.        A new form of gold by JNCASR

·      Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) have developed a new gold formed by microcystallites.

·  The microcystallites do not dissolve in mercury and Aqua regia (mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid).

·  The microcystallites are synthesized by decomposing an organic complex containing gold and other ions under controlled condition.

·  Normal gold is of face-centered cubic structure while new form has deformed cubic structure either of tetragonal and orthorhombic cells.


2.        Third freight corridor will come in 2019

·     India’s third freight corridor which is named as East-Coast freight corridor will come up in 2019 to link Kharagpur of West Bengal and Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh.

·   The total length of this dedicated freight corridor will be 1,114 km and it is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project of Indian Railways.

·   The first and second dedicated freight corridors are East-West Freight Corridor and North-South Freight Corridor respectively.


3.        Asia Cup will be in UAE

·      United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the Asia Cup 2018 as BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and ECB (Emirates Cricket Board) have signed an agreement to host the cup in UAE.

·  India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will participate in the Asia Cup 2018.

·  The tournament will be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 15th September to 28th September.


4.        One liner Current Affairs

·      Former United Nations Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan passed away on 18th August 2018.

·     Imran Khan sworn in as Pakistan’s Prime Minister on 18th August 2018 and his cabinet will consist 15 members.

·  Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced to roll-out facial recognition in a phased manner.

·  The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has instructed all insurance companies to make provision to cover mental illness in policies.

·  Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will use warehouse for storage after signing MoU with the Central Warehouse Corporation.

· Bangladesh is planning to import 10,000 MW power from India. Currently, Bangladesh is importing 700 MW of electricity.

· Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is planning to invest in start-ups, build solar power plants and set up battery charging stations for electric vehicles.

· Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) has increased Marginal Cost Lending Rate (MCLR) by up to 10 bps.

· The 11th World Hindi Conference was inaugurated in Mauritius on 18th August, 2018. The theme of this year is “Hindi World and Indian Culture”.

 · Asian Games began in Jakarta (Capital of Indonesia) on 18th August 2018.
