1. Trump picks former A-­G William Barr for job again

  • U.S. President Donald Trump has chosen former Attorney ­General (A­G) of the George H.W. Bush administration, William P. Barr, for the role again

2. Chinese President Xi Jinping told North Korea's Foreign Minister that he hoped Pyongyang and Washington will address each other's concerns so that peace talks on the Korean peninsula “continue to make positive progress”

3. HCL Technologies said it will acquire select software products from IBM in areas such as security and marketing, for $1.8 billion — one of the biggest acquisitions by an Indian IT firm.

4. Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Radha Mohan Singh has said that the 160th session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Council, currently underway in Rome, approved India’s proposal to observe an International Year of Millets in 2023.

  • On behalf of all countrymen the minister conveyed his gratitude to the countries who voiced their support. He added that this will enhance global awareness to bring back these nutri-cereals to the plate, for food and nutrition security and hence increase production for resilience to challenges posed globally by climate change.

5.In order to mark the “Mahaparinirvan Diwas” of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on 06th December, 2018, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot and  the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Vijay Sampla unveiled a life size painting of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), 15 Janpath, New Delhi.

6. NITI Aayog Launches Global Hackathon On Artificial Intelligence

  • With the vision to further expand the idea of ‘Artificial Intelligence, AI for All’ articulated in the National AI Strategy, NITI Aayog organises hackathons to source sustainable, innovative and technologically-enabled solutions to address various challenges in the development space.
  • NITI Aayog is now partnering with Perlin – a Singapore-based AI start up - to launch the ‘AI 4 All Global Hackathon’,  and is inviting developers, students, start-ups and companies to develop AI applications to make significant positive social and economic impact for India.  

7. The Central Government has approved Anti-Smuggling National Coordination Centre (SCord) under the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) to handle Smuggling.

8. Asian Development Bank (ADB)  has entered into an arrangement with the World Bank to put in place a single framework that will make co-financed projects more efficient.

  • ADB’s first Alternative Procurement Arrangement (APA) with the World Bank will allow procedures on co-financed projects to follow a single procurement framework.

9.  Panama became the first Latin American Country to join China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiate after the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Panama.

Appointment and Resignation

10. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has cleared the appointment of as the Chief Economic Adviser for three years

11. Atul Sahai will be appointed as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of New India Assurance (NIA) for a five year period replacing G Srinivasan.

              Awards and Recognition

12. T.T. Srinivasaraghavan, MD, Sundaram Finance Ltd., received the Lifetime Achievement award from N. Ravi, Publisher and former Editor In ­Chief, The Hindu, at the Trinity Arts Festival

13. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India has been conferred the Skoch Award for National Significance in New Delhi. The award was received by Secretary, Ministry of New Renewable Energy Shri Anand Kumar.

14. Rattan Lal, has won the Glinka World Soil Prize 2018 in a ceremony at the Rome headquarters of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for his outstanding contribution to sustainable soil management.


15. Arun Kumar Shaw,Former National Champion Swimmer passes away

  • He was 80 years old.
  • He was seven times National Champion and first swimmer to win Arjuna Award from Bengal.


16.Indian women’s hockey team goalkeeper Savita Punia, London Paralympics gold medalist Thangavelu Mariyappan and Asian Games winning quartermiler Ashwini Akkunji are among 14 sports persons appointed by the Sports Authority of India as coaches and assistant coaches on a permanent basis.

17.National champion Siddharth Vishwakarma beat Jayesh Pungliya in the final of the Gondwana Cup ₹10,00,000 AITA ranking men’s tennis tournament at the VIP Club
