Ethiraj College for Women was founded in 1948 with the aim of imparting quality education among women aspirants of the state of Tamil Nadu. Initially, the college introduced undergraduate courses in Economics, Botany, Chemistry, History, Zoology and English Literature. After the year 1978, the college grew conceptually with the introduction of Commerce, Mathematics and Physics at the undergraduate level and also introduced a number of postgraduate courses. The college provides many facilities to its students like library, hostel facility, placement cell and canteen.
The college has a placement cell which is involved in training and guiding students in respect of their career prospectives. Companies visited the college yet are WIPRO, TCS BPO, HCL Technologies, Goldman sachs, Google etc.
