Rashtriya sanskrit vidyapeeth is a premier institution for the higher education and learning in sanskrit,shastras,and pedagogy.It is funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development through University Grants Commission, New Delhi.It was established in 1961.The vidyapeeth as a deemed university functioning from 1991-92

The objective of establishing vidyapeeth is to to preserve and impart instruction in traditional Sanskrit lore with special attention to highly specialised branches of Sastras,to provide facilities for the study of such languages and literatures of Asia as have a bearing on Sanskrit studies such as Pali, Tibetan, Mongolian, Japanese   etcto collect, preserve and publish manuscripts and to provide means for  training in Manuscriptology specifically in scripts used for Sanskrit   manuscripts.The institution believes in  quality improvement in teaching of sanskrit and shastras by developing innovative ideas,methods for teaching,development of modern research methodology in sanskrit as by development of language lab for the research purpose of sanskrit and shastras.
