The T.K.M College of Engineering, Kollam was crystallized in form and substance in 1956 and Dr.N.Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India, laid the foundation stone. After a short span of two years, the College was formally inaugurated by, Prof.Humayun Kabir the Hon'ble minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs in 1958.
This is the first private grant-in-aid Engineering College in the state. The silver jubilee of the College was celebrated with elegance in 1983. In memory of this, a new building was constructed for the central library with all modern facilities.

The Training & Placement Cell of the college is working as a team under the leadership of the coordinator Dr. N E Jaffar. The team consists of the committee members from each department and a group of dedicated students. Every activity of the Cell is monitored by Dr. N E Jaffar and Dr. S. Suresh. The Cell pays extra effort to invite reputed companies over the campus and extends due hospitality to make them comfortable in the campus. The cell helps a large number of students to secure employment in reputed organizations through campus recruitment. The cell also helps students in arranging vacation training and project work for them in industries. The T&P Cell arranges periodic training and Personality development programs.
