Govt. Arts & Commerce College, Sagar came in to  existence in the year 1983 with 55 students a total strength, since then, it has increased in size and contents to take the present shape. At present college is running in it's own Building near Tili Town, Sagar.

Govt. Arts and Commerce (Nodal) College, SAGAR is an institution which is catering to the needs of undergraduate students in all faculties and also conducting post graduate classes. It has been our continuous endaevour to provide equal educational opportunities for the weaker sections of the society particularly the SC/ST and OBC. To meet this goal, our basic requirement is to make improvement in our teaching learning process as well as sports facilities by upgrading basic infrastructure like library, laboratories, classrooms and sports. It is our firm determination to improve our standards through modernization and rationalization of courses and to relate the undergraduate courses in social science, science and commerce to career opportunities. The present strength of our college is 3000 approx.

            It is our utmost need to expand and  consolidate the existing facilities, so as to provide ample opportunities to students to opt for the best suitable course in accordance with their interest and capacity. Out of the total strength of 3000 students, more than 50% belong to SC/ST/OBC/Minorities and economically deprived sections. Our college requires financial assistance to cater to its needs. The basic infrastructure of the college including books, journals, modern scientific labs and equipments, campus development, sports facilities, teaching aids, basic aminities needs to be strengthened. Basic facilities for women like girls common room, canteen, toilet and GYMNASIUM are yet to be provided.

            The college is included under section 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC act 1956 and fulfills the eligibility conditions for the general development grant of UGC. The college has 18 permanent, a sports officer and a well qualified librarian. The college runs three faculties including science, arts and commerce.
