The Government College of Physical Education, Kozhikode was started on 28th October 1957 with a view to meet the demand of trained personnels in the field of Physical Education. It was at that time housed in the Science block of the old Samorian's College at Tali, Kozhikode. The College was shifted to the present site at East Hill from July 1962. The regular courses in the college were suspended in 1963 and short term courses of various durations wre conducted till the certificate course re-started in 1964.
