Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College situated at Mount Vera, Chalakkara, Mahe and built in a serene, picturesque, sprawling campus. The college is an outcome of the efforts of the Puducherry administration with the avowed objective of imparting quality education in Arts, Humanities, Science to all the constituent units of the Union Territory.

The institution started as junior college affiliated to the University of Calicut. It attained the status of a full-fledged degree college in the year 1973 and a Post Graduate institution in the year 1992. The college is presently affiliated to the Pondicherry University and is accredited “‘B Grade” by NACC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The College has good infrastructural facilities, well equipped laboratories, qualified and experienced Professors.
