Chennai Presidency College was founded in the year 1840 by Thiru Eyre Burton Powell with an aim of providing quality education in the fields of Arts, Science and Commerce to the aspirants of Tamil Nadu state. In the year 1857 with the establishment of Madras University, Presidency College got affiliated to the University. In 1870, the College moved to its present location in Kamaraj Salai. It is one of the premier colleges in Tamil Nadu. The college provides many facilities to its students like library, hostels facility, canteen facility, a cooperative store, an extensiom counter of Central Bank of India, a Post Office, and a Health Care Unit.
