Kent is a great school and a balanced school. Our academic program isn't just rigorous, it's rigorous and interesting, with classes that are rare at the high school level. As you look through the course titles—Screenwriting; Mandarin Chinese; Genetics; Biotechnology; Introduction to International Relations; Contemporary Issues in the Middle East—you'll see what we mean. And our engaged faculty are here to support you as you take on these challenges.
You can also design your own course as a Major Independent Study Project. One student studied behavioral development in her grade-school-aged dance students. Another focused on American socialism and its quick rise and fall. The local history of Kent itself has been a student's project, as has developing algorithms and writing computer programs to solve puzzles.
As great as your studies are at Kent, that's just part of the picture. The Arts flourish here, with strong programs in the visual arts, drama and music. Again, the variety of courses is rich—Sculpture, Digital Imaging, Orchestra, and Music Technology to name a few—and they are supplemented by extracurricular arts activities, such as Bell Ringing or singing in our a cappella groups, or even the spring musical, which combines efforts from the whole arts department.
Kent also has a vigorous and successful athletics program. We compete in 23 varsity sports in the Founders League, one of the most competitive independent school leagues in the country. Virtually every year Kent wins League Championship in at least one sport and every season Kent athletes earn League All-Star, New England All-Star, or even All-American recognition. There's also an excellent intramural program with sports like skiing and mountain biking.
Add to all of this a wide variety of clubs and organizations, leadership opportunities, and fantastic residential life, and it's clear that Kent is an all-around school. And that's going to make for all-around you.

Kent's school motto is "Temperantia, Fiducia, Constantia." It sounds quite elegant in Latin but what it's really talking about, indeed, our very mission, is simply and solidly preparing you for life. We strive for this clarity and forthrightness in everything we do; we want your entire learning experience at Kent to be clear and strong and direct. So, we figured, why not make applying to Kent just as straightforward?
Therefore, we've gathered everything that you'll need right here: the forms, the cost of attending Kent, and how to apply for financial aid.
Read about the interview here. It's a special time that allows us to get to know you and, equally important, it allows you to get to know us. Ideally, the interview will take place during your campus visit, but if you can’t visit campus, we can conduct the interview when one of our Admissions staff visits your area.
And of course, if you have any questions, please contact us.
Kent's 1200 acres includes 13 playing fields, a cross-country running course in Macedonia Valley, a piece of the Appalachian Trail and a stretch of the Housatonic River. Basically, it's big and beautiful and it lets you do a lot of fun and interesting things.
But, more important than how big it is, is how small it is. All the main buildings and facilities share a single square mile of campus. This makes getting from class to class much easier as you work through your daily schedule. It makes it simple to get to your job, or to lunch, and a breeze to participate in your clubs. And the town of Kent is just a five-minute walk away.
But while you'll find that working, studying and living on Kent's campus is all drawn together physically, it's even closer emotionally. In fact, you'll find your spiritual life and community service to be vital parts of the Kent experience. Or maybe it's life experience. Because as you learn and grow, get ready for college and become a leader, you'll see how important humanity is. When you leave Kent and look back on your experience, the thing you’ll remember most—more than the action-packed weekends is the people you met, how well you knew them, and how well th
Are you ready to be inspired? Are you willing to work hard and to grow, eager to question anything and to discover everything? If so, then Kent is the place for you. Our courses make you think about new things in new ways. You learn to analyze texts and data. You learn to write and speak with greater clarity and insight. You learn to solve problems, and you learn about the world — how deep and complex and interesting it is. You learn about yourself. (Because you're deep, complex and interesting too!)
And as rigorous as academic work is at Kent, it's also interesting and exciting. We offer courses you don't normally see at the high school level: Greek Oratory, Russian Literature, The Modern Middle East, and Biotechnology, just to name a few. A glance at our summer reading list gives a sense of the breadth of ideas we absorb and discuss. And when you talk to current students, you feel the enthusiasm and drive that makes Kent…Kent. More than 90 percent of students go beyond graduation requirements and some 80 percent take at least one Advanced Placement course - many take more than one. On top of that, our academic departments allow you to do an independent study project in almost any subject that interests you, be it Sanskrit or artificial intelligence. At Kent, you can even work towards a certificate in our Pre-Engineering Program.
The best description of academic life here might be “empowering.” Our goal is for you to become self-reliant, to take responsibility for yourself — which includes seeking out help when you need it — and to use academic resources inside and out of the library efficiently. That empowerment begins in the New Student Seminar, where you’ll be acquainted with our academic resources, strengthen your study habits, and polish your time management skills.
Kent supports your academic success in many other ways as well. Our academic facilities are cutting edge. The technology here, and your laptop, play a central role in your academics and beyond. Our college counseling is individualized, thoughtful, and comprehensive. Students rely on the Summer Learning office to get ideas on what they can do when they're away from Kent. Then there is, most importantly, our faculty.
The teachers, coaches, and mentors you study and live with here at Kent are exceptional. Their backgrounds and experience are impressive—they’ve been educated at some of the most respected colleges and universities in the country. But what makes them truly Kent,
