The Institute of Advanced Study in Education is one of the Government Colleges of Education under the administrative control of the Director of Collegiate Education, Tamilnadu, affiliated to the University of Madras. This Institute popularly known as Teachers College was established in the year 1856 in Madras Presidency. This is the oldest Teacher Training Institution in India. The institution achieved the reputation of being the largest and the best of its kind not only in India but also in the whole Asia. Many stalwarts like Dr.S.Radhakrishnan, Former President of India and Rt.Honourable Srinivasa Sastry as students of this Institution brought glory to the Institution. Madam Montessori, the founder of Children Home from Italy made a historical visit to the Kindergarten section of this institution in 1952, thus enhancing the prestige of this institution.
