The Catholic Church is one of the pioneers and best institutions engaged in propaganding and imparting excellence in education, medicine and social activities. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Akola was established in the year 1881. Almost a century later, in 1977 - 78 Mount Carmel School, Akola was born. This prestigious institution attains the age of Twenty Five in the academic year 2002 - 2003. The infant institution becoming a nubile maiden. During these twenty five years the school has grown like a huge banyan tree giving shelter to many young children who came to quench their thirst in the pursuit of knowledge, by providing them quality education and value based discipline. Situated in a beautiful location in the heart of the cotton city, on banks of the holy river Morna; the school began with only the minimum of convenience and infrastructure, and has now grown into a full - fledged and one of the finest of institutions in this region (First grade one), affiliated to the State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary education, Government of Maharashtra. This institution is administered and maintained by the catholic dioceses of Amravati. During the past twenty five years the school has faced innumerable obstacles. The hurdles and problems finally turned out to be blessings and opportunities. In 1977 under the guidance of Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Rosario (co-founder) the former bishop of Amravati, Rev. Fr. Nobert Braganza (the founder of the school who is no more today) strained every nerve to see that the school grows in the right direction in her infancy. Rev. Fr. Cyriac continued the assiduous efforts with the same zeal from 1982 to 1989. During these years the Holy Cross sisters Sr. Loretto and sr. Margaret who nurtured and nourished the school have also gone for their eternal reward. From 1985 to 1989 Sr. Annamma and Sr. Fatema D'Souza of Holy Cross followed the spirits of wisdom and enthusiasm of their predecessors. The school owes very much to all of them who left no stone unturned to steady the flattering steps of the infant school. In the year 1987 the school was raised to be a Secondary School. Thanks to the efforts of Honourable Shri Sudhakarrao Gangane the ex-minister. His benevolence will always remain cherished in our memory. From the year 1990 the school has began a new chapter in its long journey towards rapid progress, development, prosperity and excellence. It has excelled consistently both in academics and co-curricular activities. Since 1990 the school has kept a record of cent (hundred) percent results with a larger number of students topping the Divisional Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Amravati with merits, distinctions and highest marks in various subjects. Generations of students have gone out of this institution. The ex-alumini can be found perched in all continents. It is gratifying to note that most of them are well placed in life. Hence the school feels proud when she looks back at the array of students. A few have slept in the Lord , R.I.P.. The school opened with just 30 students, has grown into an institution imparting instruction to some four thousands students with a staff strength of 110, of which some seventy are on teaching and 34 of them are on the non-teaching staff. Now we have the needed infrastructure, trained staff, other facilities, permission from the government to open the Higher Secondary section from academic year 2004 - 2005 (Stds. XI and XII) attached to the secondary school. It is going to be a blessing for the future generation. We have a full fledged library with some 10,000 books. The laboratories are well equipped. The computer lab is well furnished and has 30 latest computers (Pentium III & IV) with internet facilities. The school provides School buses for the safety and security of it's young children. The Silver Jubilee Memorial Multi - purpose hall and new class rooms are going to be a boon to the students. In fact, it is one of the best, beautiful and biggest in this region which will accommodate 2000 children. It is considered to be a blessing to the city during this Silver Jubilee year. We thank Almighty God for the blessings He has showered on us during the past twenty years and for the steady and rapid progress. I express my deep and he artful gratitude to the patronage of His Excellency the Most Rev. Dr. Edwin Colaco the present Bishop of Amravati and the good will of our well -wishers, benefactors, parents, staff and students; especially that of the people of Akola city. Let the good Lord bless all those who are in a big way or small way connected with this institution, especially in this Jubilee year. My Silver Jubilee Greeting to all..
