Nagpur University stops admisssion to 338 colleges

The Nagpur University on friday stopped admission to 338 affiliated colleges working without even a single full time teacher. Nagpur university also recommended disaffiliation of 161 courses in various colleges were the number of students were less than 50 % of the sanctioned capacity. The move would have little impact on the admission as over 1 lakhs seats remained vacant last year across all faculties . Although there was mad rush for BBA and BCA courses , there was poor response to other courses. Thousands of seats were vacant last year even in the professional courses like engineering and pharmacy.
A noticed published in various newspaper by NU board of College and University Development director Arvind Chaudhray warned the students and parents not to take admission to these colleges for the year 2013-14 academic year and if they do so , the university will not be responsible for their fate. NU also warned the college management not to admit students till they compily with the stipulated with norms and face consequences if they go ahead. Through NU notice mentioned having upload details of these 338 colleges on its website, the same did not reflect in website till late evening . We have acted as per the high court orders of this court and also at the risk and cost of VC , pro VC and registrar.
The list includes colleges being run by some of the renowned education groups of the city and regions such as Meghe, Raisoni, Pandav , Agnihotri, Priyadarshini, Joshi , Mulak and Waghaye Patil among others. These colleges are controlled by M P Datta Meghe, MLA Sevak Waghaye , former MLC Jainuddin Zaveri and NCP 's Uday Tekade. Infact , many engineering , architecture and mangement colleges are also included in the list where admissions have been stopped. Many colleges also belong to the NU's sattutory members like Puroshottam Thote, who is one of the university senate.
NU has 827 affiliated colleges the highest among all the universities in state and majority of them are working without principals , lecturers, and without adequate infrastructure and facilities . Recently NU clered proposals of 51 new colleges.
