Open book tests for CBSE from this year.

Students and teachers of CBSE schools will now have to prepare themselves for long awaited open book this year. The board has now decided to evaluate the students analytical and theoritical skills and encourage them to keep away from the rote memorization by allocating 15 to 20 % of marks in subjects to the questions based on the textbook.  This mode of assement will be applicable for all the classes of 9 including the subjects economics , geography and biology. The textual material which could be an article, case study, diagram. problem or situation, will be related to the concepts from the syllabus.

 

Schools said that the new idea would be challenging for both students as well as teachers. In any board who is thorough to his textbook and can memorize well now be able to score good marks. This would encourage the students to enhance their analytical skills. This would be a different approach for the teachers as well. Now they have to adopt different methods and different approach for this newly introduced method of test which is nothing but the open book exam .

 

Teachers are expected to encourage students and push them in to the practice of critical thinking. Teachers have ti initiate discussions to help students to view the material from different perspective and apply theoritical concepts of real life.

 

Experts said that this new method would lessen the burden from the students and they can devote more time in learing new and sphisticated things.It is also expected to remove the stress of  dealing with exams and eliminate the obession with marks.
