Those private unaided schools which have received government land at concessional rates will now have to bear the cost of education for 15% of the students admitted under the economically weaker section (EWS) category. The government is also creating two slabs for the EWS reimbursement of Rs 1,250 and Rs 1,000 per month. According to sources, the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi Government is also preparing a format for common forms for EWS admissions across schools in the city. The fresh guidelines for nursery are expected to be announced by the DoE later this week after the Delhi high court’s decision on the age criteria which is listed for hearing on Tuesday. In the meantime, the directorate is finalizing the other guidelines for the admission process which is scheduled to start from January 2, 2012. “In such private unaided schools which have been benefitted from receiving land at concessional rate the government will reimburse only 10% of the EWS students.” These guidelines will be applicable to more than 380 schools which had received land at concessional rate. As per the Right of Children for Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, schools are suppose to reserve 25% of the seats for children from economically weaker sections of society. On the reimbursement policy for the EWS category, the government is likely to divide it into two slabs. “There will be two slabs – Rs 1,250 and Rs 1,000. The guidelines will specify which schools will get Rs 1,250 and which ones will get Rs 1,000 per EWS student per month, which will be deduced from various parameters like the fee structure of the school and infrastructure, among others,” said a DoE source. Moreover, DoE is have a relook at the admission forms format for the EWS category and will soon announce a common format for all the schools to follow.
