So let’s begin with today's capsule !! Achal Kumar Joti as new Chief election commissioner ( CEC) Achal Kumar Joti , a 1975 batch IAS officer will take charge as the new Chief Election commissioner. He will take charge on 6th of july, 2017 , a day after Dr. nasim zaidi demits the office. The law Ministry notified his appointment as CEC on 4th july, 2017. Chief Election Commissioner CEC is the head of Election Commission of India . Election commission of India ( ECI) is responsible for conducting free and fair elections in the country at various levels. The Chief Election Commissioner is appointed by the president and can submit his resignation to the president. Those persons who have wide experience of public affairs like senior most IAS officers of the country are chosen for the post of Chief Election commissioner. The Removal of CEC is very difficult and is done by the method called “Impeachment”,. About Achal Kumar Joti He is retired IAS officer of 1975 batch from Gujarat Cadre. He is former chief secretary of Gujarat State, he also served as chairman of kandla port trust and managing Director of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd. About Nasim Zaidi- Syed nasim ahmad Zaidi is 1976 batch retired IAS officer whose tenure as the Chief election commissioner ends on 5th July. Earlier he was secretary under ministry of civil aviation. 5th meeting of ‘BRICS education ministers’ The Two Day meeting of BRICS education ministers signed in on 5th of July, 2017. All the five nation Education ministers participated in the meeting and Indian Delegation was led by Shri Prakash Javadekar who is the current Minister of Human resource development of India. The venue of the meeting was Beijing, china. Shri Prakash javadekar gave the token of thanks to the chinese government as education is the universal , apolitical agenda of utmost importance. At the conclusion of meeting, a bilateral meeting was also held between the Minister of Human Resource Development, India and the Education Minister of China, Mr. Chen Baosheng. BRICS-NU BRICS- Network University is an initiative where 12 universities from each of the 5 nations under BRICS will engage with each other in education research and innovation. The Area of focus and priority will be Communication and IT, Economics, Climate Change, Water Resources and Pollution, and BRICS study. India bagged the BRICS-NU initiative whole heartedly. NIRF It refers to National Institutional Ranking Framework whose function is to provide a relative ranking of Indian institutions. MOOC SWAYAM, GIAN MOOC and SWAYAM are India’s indigenously created platform to provide online courses. MOOC refers to Massive Online Open Courses. SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Indian Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy i.e access, equity and quality. On the other hand GIAN refers to Global Initiative of Academic Networks. MOOC and SWAYAM have already hosted 480 online courses and is about to host almost 2000 online courses in this year. Under GIAN 600 professors from about 62 countries have already conducted their courses in India and in the year 2017 India is expected to receive another 800 faculty from across the world. IMPRINT Under this Areas of research are focused which are on top of priority list for india. National digital Library (NDL) It provides about 7.2 million online resources which are free of cost. NAD It refers to National Academic Depository (NAD) which is a Smart India Hector, which involved more than 40000 students in solving over 300 problems received from various sources. India’s TERI ranked 2nd in the World The Energy resources Institute( TERI) bagged 2nd position among world’s best climate think tank by the International Centre for Climate Governance (ICCG). During an Event of ICCG’s 23rd annual conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), TERI was Positioned at 2nd rank in the category of “2016 Top Climate think Tanks”. The Venue of the event was Athens, greece. TERI TERI is a non-profit research, policy research organisation whose function is to conduct research works in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development. The year of Establishment of TERI is 1974. Its earlier name was TATA Energy research Institute and was renamed afterwards in the year 2003. The functions of TERI is to formulate local and National level Strategies in order to curb the Critical issues. The key areas to focus UNDER TERI are clean energy, water management, pollution management, sustainable agriculture and climate resilience. In the year 2013, TERI was ranked no.1 think tank by ICCG. Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Ship visit to Kochi The royal Australia Navy ship ( RAN) visits the coast of Kochi under the commandment of Commander MD Sirois for the duration 04 - 07 Jul 17. The aim of the visit is to interact on the issues of common interest to both navies. The commanding officer alongwith Ms. Harinder Sidhu, High Commissioner of Australia and Captain Sheldon Williams, Defence Attache called on Vice Admiral AR Karve AVSM, Flag Officer Commanding- in- Chief Southern Naval Command (SNC) will be present on the ship. The ship will depart on 7th july, 2017. The RAN ship is also planned to participate in a passage Exercise with IN Ships off Kochi. AUSINDEX is the name of Bilateral Naval ( Maritime Exercises between both the navies, recently AUSINDEX17 was conducted in the month of june. These exercises promote the interoperability of the Navies of both the nation. The new director general of NDRF- Sanjay kumar Sanjay Kumar was appointed as the new director general of NDRF i.e National Disaster Response Force. He is the Senior IPS officer of 1985 batch of himachal pradesh cadre and will succeed Mr RK Pacchanda who will be demitting the post as he will now take the charge of ITBP( Indo-tibetan Border Police). NDRF NDRF was established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. It is an disaster controlling combat force. The headquarters of NDRF is in New Delhi and it comes direct under the control of Ministry of Home Affairs. Maitree - 2017 Maitree is the Joint military training exercises between Indian Army and Royal Thailand Army. The Venue of the exercise was Bakloh in Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. It is a 14 day long exercise which is aimed to build and promote closer relations between the two armies y exchanging the experiences. Maitree is a series of Annual bilateral exercises between india and thailand. The previous edition of exercise was held in at Krabi in thailand. In this exercises various techniques to counter attack terrorism are practised to make jolt in both the armies. Planning and execution of various drills takes place under this followed by awareness of various threats. Earlier, in the month of march a joint training exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman took place. The name of the exercise was Al Nagah-II 2017 and the venue of exercise was Bakloh.
